Education and/or experience: Associates degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred; RHIA or RHIT certification preferred. ICD-10CM/PCS certification required. . Requires a minimum of five (5) years’ coding experience and three (3) years’ supervisory experience. Experience with CDI preferred. Experience with McKesson Paragon, McKesson, One Content, NextGen, Misys, 3M Encoder, e-Premis, or similar systems a plus.
Knowledge: Requires in-depth knowledge of medical records management, acute care coding of all types, as well as applicable requirements of the Joint Commission, CMS and state and federal regulations and HIPAA Privacy standards. Also requires working knowledge of accounts receivable processes and in-depth knowledge of medical terminology.
Skills: Requires strong problem solving, time management, leadership and organizational skills; written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Critical thinking, judgment, and decsion making skills are also essential. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
Abilities: Requires an ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment. Ability to coordinate long term projects and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive patient and personnel information required. Must be able to work effectively with other departments. Requires ability to assimilate information, identify problems and make recommendations for corrective actions. Must possess the ability to prioritize needs and resources, multi-task and meet deadlines. Flexibility, adaptability to change, and ability to work under stressful conditions are necessary.
