Job Description This position assigns appropriate MRN numbers, schedules procedure appointments, registers patients, validates patient demographic and insurance information, verifies patient insurance eligibility, receives and processes physician orders, checks for compliance, checks physician sanctions, calculates and collects patient liabilities, obtains necessary pre-certifications / authorization for service, and provides exceptional customer service. Pre-Service Healthcare Access associates work closely with physicians, their staff, and all hospital departments in concerted effort to provide quality patient care. Job Requirements High School graduate or GED required. Graduate of Business College or 1 year college preferred with additional business courses, including medical terminology, typing, word processing, and knowledge of insurance. Must have a minimum of two years patient access experience in a healthcare environment. Previous procedure scheduling or pre-access experience and/or physician office experience, preferred. Excellent phone etiquette and customer service skills required. This competence is further demonstrated by knowledge of insurance regulations and policies, demonstrates knowledge of referral, authorization, and verification process. Would need to have the ability to set and meet deadlines and prioritize work, and be able to work independently. Individual would be required to handle sensitive and confidential information according to Tennova policy and procedures. Must possess oral and written communication skills, critical thinking.
