Responsible for all types of hospital registrations and admissions, including obtaining patient demographics, validating patient identity, assigning medical record numbers, and performing other clerical duties with minimal supervision. Responsible for account accuracy and processing point-of-service collections. Must be able to recognize accounts requiring insurance authorizations (precertification) and communicating those needs to appropriate personnel. Plays a key role in providing exceptional customer service.
Education and/or experience: High school graduate or equivalent required. Some college or other continuing education in subjects like business, speech communication, and/or medical terminology preferred. Experience in reading and interpreting doctors’ orders and/or other medical documentation preferred. Experience in a customer service, clerical healthcare field, or public relations field preferred.preferred.
Knowledge: Knowledge of multiple computer systems (including Windows programs), web-based programs (internet), email systems required. Familiarity with scheduling/ordering systems preferred. Knowledge of current Medical Terminology preferred.
Skills: Intermediate computer skills required. Data entry skills with the ability to type 40 wpm with minimal errors required. Exhibits excellent organizational skills and detail orientation. Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills. Active listening skills required. Basic mathematical skills required with the ability to calculate percentages and use a 10-key calculator. Abilities: Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. Associate should work in all areas of Patient Access without a set workstation. Must possess the ability to work flex scheduling as needed; some weekends and holidays will be required. Associate should be a self-starter (self-motivated). Must be able to work with a team. Must be able to adapt to change and work in a fast pace environment. Associate must be able to work directly with patients.
