Director, Library Services
Position Summary: The Library Director is responsible to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for providing strong leadership in administration of the Pellissippi State Libraries. The Library Director is responsible for all areas of library management, including personnel management and organization, strategic planning, and priority planning. The Library Director is expected to provide strong effective advocacy both externally and across the college, to participate in policy development, and to promote initiatives within the college, the community, and other institutions. The Library Director promotes teamwork and collegiality among library faculty and staff to provide excellent services to all library constituencies.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
10.0% Coordinate, direct and motivate staff efforts to continue the automation of Library Services and activities.
10.0% Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for Library Services programs including coordinating the integration of materials in support of college programs; recommend, within departmental policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; recommend and administer policies and procedures.
7.5% Continuously monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assess and monitor work load, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identify opportunities for improvement and review with the Vice President of Academic Affairs; coordinate implementation of devised improvements.
15.0% Select, mentor, motivate, and evaluate Library Services faculty librarians and staff; coordinate training opportunities; mentor and motivate faculty librarians and staff to seek appropriate solutions for activities and services.
10.0% Plan, motivate, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for the Library Services Department; meet regularly with faculty librarians and staff to identify and resolve activities; assign activities, projects, and programs; monitor work flow; review and evaluate project methods, and procedures.
10.0% Manage and participate in the development and administration of the Library Services Department’s annual budget; direct the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; direct the monitoring of and approval of expenditures; direct and implement adjustments as necessary.
2.5% Serve as liaison for the Library Services Department with other college departments, divisions, agencies, and organizations. Negotiate and resolve significant issues.
2.5% Provide responsible staff assistance to the Vice President of Academic Affairs; prepare reports and other necessary correspondence.
2.5% Plan and coordinate conducting a variety of organizational studies, investigations, and operational studies; work with library faculty and staff to recommend modifications to Library Services programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate.
2.5% Oversee the coordination of the integration of materials for college programs; research sources and oversee the ordering of appropriate materials as needed.
2.5% Coordinate Library Services publicity, planning and implementing publicity programs, provide presentations and tours to groups as requested.
5.0% Oversee the planning, design, development, and installation of automated systems for operations or procedures; oversee and consult about the development of plans for efficient use of library shelving, files maintenance, equipment, and facilities.
5.0% Oversee the administration of an efficient library extension and interlibrary loan
2.5% Time permitting, participate in performing library services activities: reference desk services, information literacy instructions, oversee design instructional services, design of and subject specific guides, and participate in collection development activities.
5.0% Coordinate the maintenance of various supplies and equipment inventories; approve and requisition supplies as needed.
5.0% Approve library staff support on a variety of boards and committees; attend and participate in professional group meetings and stay
abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of library and information literacy and technology management.
2.5% Answer questions and provide information to college staff and the public on Library Services Department activities; investigate areas of concern and recommend solutions to resolve issues of concern.

Required Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a M.L.S. or equivalent graduate degree from an ALA accredited institution, ability to meet PSCC criteria for tenure track position and rank of Assistant or Associate Professor or Professor; a minimum of 5 years’ experience in academic librarianship and administrative experience in a higher education setting.
(Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience)
Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Location of Position: Hardin Valley Campus Library; Division Street Campus Library, Blount County Campus Library,
Magnolia Campus Library, and Strawberry Plains Campus ERC/Library.
Pay Rate: $67,940 - $85,730.00/per year. Pay will be determined based on related work experience above required. To be considered in determining pay, all related work experience must be listed on the application.
