Nature of Work
This is unskilled and semi-skilled work in performing a variety of manual tasks requiring considerable physical exertion under close supervision. Work in this class involves responsibility for performing a wide variety of tasks which require limited skills in building maintenance and public works such as painting, carpentry, masonry, and the use and maintenance of hand and power tools incidental to maintenance activities. Assignments are usually received orally from a supervisor who inspects work while in progress or upon completion. Duties are frequently routine, consequently they may be performed with some degree of independence.
Work is performed under regular supervision.
Performs general building and facilities maintenance activities; operates equipment, maintaining and repairing buildings; cleans tools and equipment used.
Cleans parking garages and offices.
Weekly schedule includes nights and weekends. Performs related tasks as required.
Successful completion of the eighth grade supplemented by some experience in performing heavy manual tasks; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in general maintenance and construction work.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions to be used.
Skill and ability to use common hand and power tools.
Ability to carry out simple oral instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the general public.
Possession of an appropriate TN driver’s license.
